The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens are an excellent choice for those who enjoy the outdoors, with various activities and attractions on offer, including bird-watching at the steams and the dam, hiking, and picknicking on the sprawling lawns.

The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens are home to in excess of 600 naturally occurring plant species, and more than 220 species of birds.The gardens also have a nature reserve which is home to many reptile species as well as antelope, jackals and other mammal species.
The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens are family-friendly, with jungle gyms and other entertainment areas for children. There is also a train for kids, which offers rides across the gardens, and the open spaces are great for throwing a frisbee or playing other outdoor games.
It should be noted, however, that braaing is not allowed at the gardens, and dogs are also not allowed.
Located in the Ruimsig area on the West Rand of Johannesburg, the gardens have been voted the best place to get back to nature in Gauteng for 9 years in a row.
The entrance fee for adults is R40, whilst the cost for pensioners, disabled persons and university students is R27. For scholars, the entry cost is only R15.
